So, there are a few different topics that I get jazzed up around, and until today, I wasn’t exactly sure how they were related. Firstly, the notion of conscious parenting and bringing a level of awareness to how I parent and the environment I can create for my children. And secondly, when looking at my own personal development and my clinical work, this concept of bio-hacking. These, I thought, were two different ideas and two different podcast topics — until today.

My amazing guest today, Pamela Gold, and I have a fascinating conversation around conscious parenting which soon morphed into a great conversation around balance, bio-hacking, and incorporating all of these pieces into our consciousness — both as parents and as leader-entrepreneurs.

As a parent herself, Pam has developed a program in accordance with that, but on the other end of the spectrum, she’s also the owner of HACKD Fitness, a bio-hacking gym in New York City. She’s a recovering type A workaholic who has now found peace and balance in her lifestyle. In this episode, she shares the techniques, tools, and ideas that have helped her find the perfect balance between entrepreneur and parent.

Key Takeaways:

[2:03] About today’s topic and guest!

[4:00] Welcoming Pamela to the podcast.

[4:38] How Pamela got to where she is today.

[8:45] How Pamela balances her incredibly busy and impactful life while still managing to approach it from a place of simplicity.

[10:19] How does Pamela manage to be fully true to herself and not label herself as “selfish.”

[13:11] Pamela explains her process with respect to addressing ‘conscious parenting,’ and her program ‘Peace Power Parenting.’

[19:24] How does Pamela consciously shift from a busy day of work into her role as a parent?

[22:23] My experience with the Leaf and how it can be a very powerful tool.

[25:10] Pamela shares more info about her gym, HACKD, and some of the incredible bio-hacking technology available there. She also highlights some of the other bio-hacking tools she uses outside of her gym in her daily life.

[29:53] Pamela’s favorite portable bio-hacking devices.

[31:09] Pamela explains her experience with the Halo device.

[33:00] Pamela’s never-miss, daily bio-hacking lifestyle habits.

[35:15] Pamela outlines her favorite recovery techniques and tools.

We have finally reached episode 100! And with this milestone, here’s what I really want to unpack today, going into the new year: the notion of being enough and acknowledging that we are enough. I really want to focus on this concept and some of the things I’ve had to do, personally, to truly step into this place.

When I really started leaning into this place of “I am enough” and legitimately start to get it (and not just pretend for Instagram), things began to shift for me in a monumental way — and I want you to be able to achieve this, too.

I want you to look at 2019 as your year of groundedness and reflect on the honesty you need to have with yourself so you have the opportunity to truly step into this place of I am enough.

Let’s make 2019 the best year, the biggest year, and the most impactful year of your life!

Key Takeaways:

[:25] About today’s episode.

[3:38] The concept of “I am enough” and growth (my word for 2018).

[5:02] What happened until I embraced the concept of “I am enough.”

[6:51] My challenge to all of you: seek clarity and honesty around where your desire for growth comes from.

[7:55] I want you to strive towards a place where you’re truly grateful for the things you have created and take the action that you need to take in your life so that you feel settled in that.

[8:43] Exploring where I want to go in 2019 and the commitment I’ve made to myself.

[10:35] I want you to look at 2019 as your year of groundedness!

[11:29] The exciting format changes for the podcast going forward!

CALL TO ACTION

I want you to start the new year with the right attitude! Take the time you need to think up (or write down in your journal) where your desire for growth and betterment come from. Does it come from a place of needing to prove to yourself you are enough? Or does it come from a place of growth for the sake of growth? Really be honest with yourself! It was an absolute pleasure to sit down with my guest today, Amanda Foti! Amanda is a registered dietitian from New York with a Master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition. She’s also the Director at Healthie — a comprehensive platform for nutritional and wellness care. But, most excitingly (for me), she’s also an entrepreneur who got the start-up itch.

Today’s conversation is all about how we can eat better as mission-minded entrepreneurs. And it’s a really interesting one too! Amanda uniquely contextualized nutrition and nutritional optimization for the world of entrepreneurs. We also got into the types of foods that she recommends for her clients in terms of maximizing energy and shifting our habits, and, had a really fascinating conversation around the psychology of eating (why is it that we pick the foods that we do? And what are the influences on the types of foods that we naturally select for our bodies?)

As an entrepreneur, it is key to eat healthily and maintain optimal nutrition! You’ll want to tune in for this one.

Key Takeaways:

[2:06] About my guest today, Amanda Foti.

[3:32] Welcoming Amanda to the podcast!

[3:55] Amanda takes us through her personal journey and how she got to where she is today.

[8:52] Amanda’s ‘musts’ for staying healthy in the start-up world.

[12:13] Amanda dives into the topic of the psychology of eating.

[17:00] How the Healthie platform helps both practitioners and consumers.

[23:57] Was Amanda always an entrepreneur? How did she develop her entrepreneurial sense?

[25:35] Amanda’s key nutritional habits you should have in place in the new year!

[29:35] How to manage indulgences with priorities and a positive vs. negative mindset.

[33:56] The importance of connecting your desired outcome to something bigger to achieve success.

[34:58] How Amanda eats and maintains her health.

[38:01] How Amanda defines health.

[41:59] Amanda’s key performance indicators!

“Badass,” is a really great way to describe my guest today. Dr. Keira Barr is a global speaker, international best-selling author, educator, and dual board-certified dermatologist who’s been in practice for the last 20 years. But what makes her really exceptional at being able to talk about skin health in an integrative capacity is her own story as a cancer survivor. Ironically, as someone who’s trained in dermatology, she found herself face-to-face with a diagnosis of skin cancer. It was this that was really part of what galvanized her to want to look at skin health from an upstream perspective.

Our conversation today really looked at the ins and outs of sunscreen, some of the key factors that we see in terms of people who have exceptional skin health, and some of the things we should be looking at if skin health is something you have struggled with or want to look at from a preventative capacity.

Our skin is one of the things that we project outwardly; it’s part of our brand. It gives us confidence. It’s critical to us when we’re talking about health but also when we have the confidence to step forward as entrepreneurs on a mission that we are all focused on.

Key Takeaways:

[2:02] About my guest today, Dr. Keira Barr.

[3:29] Welcoming Dr. Barr to the podcast!

[3:53] Keira shares her story and journey that has gotten her to this point.

[7:44] How Keira’s own experience shifted her practice.

[9:49] What has been Keira’s experience working with patients on their skin health.

[12:35] Keira talks about how the brain plays a role in your skin.

[13:45] Keira explains the general side effects of Accutane as well as its impact systemically and from a long-term perspective.

[18:16] Important foods that we should eliminate or include to support skin health.

[22:30] How do we navigate topical skin-care and what are the key ingredients we should be looking for?

[26:15] Keira’s take on sunscreen!

[29:48] Keira’s favorite sunscreens.

[33:19] Keira’s key takeaways for proper skin health.

[34:24] Correlations between sleep and skin health.

[35:28] Habits and correlations Keira has noticed amongst people with impeccable skin.

Jan 1, 2019

Today’s episode was a ton of fun to put together! We decided, as a team, that we wanted to lay down our version (or interpretation) of health and wellness trends that we’re forecasting for 2019. On top of that, we’re also giving you our take on them, what we think is working, and whether or not we think they’ll stand the test of time.

My team is pretty incredible and I’m super excited to give you all the chance to hear from all of them — for the first time ever — all in one episode! With me is Dr. Yashar Khosroshahi, Dr. Anita Davis, and Heather Allen.

We seriously had a ton of fun recording this — maybe a little bit too much fun. We get into biohacking; talked food (from cheeseburgers to adaptogens); and discussed concepts like mindfulness, meditating, and challenging growth. We hope you’ll join us all for the first episode back in 2019!

[8:32] Cautions about engaging in biohacking.

[11:29] The trend of deeply engaging in gratitude.

[11:55] Yashar explains what happens when we move into a state of genuine gratitude and why is it such a powerful idea to engage in.

[14:24] The next trend: transparency and vulnerability.

[15:34] What the team is observing in terms of transparency.

[17:24] Where to go for a really good cheeseburger!

[18:09] Trend #4: meditation studios or brain gyms.

[20:22] Yashar’s recommendations for those who struggle with meditating.

[22:05] My recommendations for getting started with meditation.

[24:16] Trend #5: adaptogens and elixirs.

[26:28] What the EPL team thinks about adaptogens.

[30:41] Another new trend: mushrooms, and what’s so cool about them.

[31:38] How the EPL team is leveraging mushrooms in their practice.

[33:27] Our last trend, going into 2019: embracing the idea that you are enough but still challenging growth.
