Have you ever thought about quitting your job? Just walking in, saying “I’ve had enough, I’m out of here,” and committing wholeheartedly to a new dream. If that is you, or if you know someone who’s had that thought, this episode was created for you!

Sarah Huggins was my guest today — and she has an incredible story to share! Sarah went from a comfy, cozy corporate gig as a lawyer to opening a restaurant — a restaurant focused on healthy, uncomplicated, wholesome food. In this episode, she talks about the criticism, how she stayed clear to her vision, and how she balances her new career as an entrepreneur with three young kids at home. For obvious reasons, I totally resonated with her story, I loved what she had to say, and we had so much fun in this episode!

More About Sarah Huggins

If you’re dreaming about ditching your day job to pursue a lifelong calling, Sarah Huggins has been there, done that. “I spent 10 years as a lawyer and I enjoyed it, but my passion just seemed to grow and grow and grow, and it seemed inevitable that this was something I had to do, or I’d live to regret it,” says Huggins.

That passion: her deep love of cooking, shaped by her West Coast roots. The inevitable: opening her own restaurant, Mary Be Kitchen (21 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto), to share her “whole food for the soul” philosophy.

Huggins has already established herself as a food blogger; she’s been dishing out fuss-free, family-friendly recipes on her website, Kiwi & Bean (the nicknames for her husband and her daughter, respectively), since 2013. Now, with her new fast-casual spot in midtown, she’s welcoming all of Toronto to her table. (fleetstreetmag.com/city/mary-be-kitchen-toronto/)

CALL TO ACTION

May 22, 2018

Anyone who’s an entrepreneur will resonate with this idea that entrepreneurship is, in and of itself, a spiritual journey. The sheer act of putting something out into the world and hoping that people pick it up creates so much awareness around the blocks and self-work you really need to do get your idea and capacity for impact out there.

It is for this reason that my guest today does what she does. Jen Mavros is a modern day spiritual messenger. She’s an incredible woman with a very diverse background as it pertains to understanding the blockages that are holding us back from being our best, possible selves. She’s currently working towards a doctorate in Metaphysical Sciences in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This episode, we talk about epigenetics, the Akashic Records, and past lives. I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation today because it was so real and on-point as it pertains to really acknowledging the role that our spirituality and our need to address our blockages have as we look to amplify what we’re doing in this world. I promise you, this episode is going to challenge and introduce you to new ideas you never thought you’d hear — here!

Key Takeaways:

[3:29] Welcoming Jen to the podcast!

[3:39] About Jen’s mission in the world; who she is and the journey that got her to this point in her career.

[6:40] The notion of looking at your mission for the world as a mission you were given.

[8:27] Jen’s take and vibes on Las Vegas’ energy.

[11:53] About Jen’s studies in Metaphysical Sciences; why she studies it, what it’s all about, and how it ties into entrepreneurship.

[13:46] Where do people’s blockages come from that stop them from moving forward?

[16:59] How does Jen get people to tap into these things and overcome blockages?

[20:03] How does Jen work with people to remove these blocks? What modalities and tools does she leverage?

[22:30] How Jen believes we should view blockages to help us progress through our journey and grow more deeply.

[24:37] Habits and patterns we can build every day to help us get closer to that healthy vibration.

[26:56] Is it particularly less difficult for women to reach this mentality?

[29:34] Does Jen think when you surrender to your mission things get easier?

[30:37] How to help entrepreneurs to this space of surrendering to your mission and let inspiration lead you.

[36:07] What are Akashic Records and how Jen connects them with the individuals she works with.

May 15, 2018

My guest today, Dr. Sandra Scheinbaum, was 65 years old when she decided to found her business, The Functional Medicine Coaching Academy. She saw a need and she saw how her skills would be able to complement something that is so imperative to our successful changes in health behavior — which is our own need for coaches. Sandra approached The Institute for Functional Medicine and said, ‘As someone with a background as a teacher and a psychotherapist, I can develop curriculum and teach people to be coaches for your practitioners’ — and the rest was history.

What’s so incredible about this interview is that we touch on all these different elements of behaviour change — not just from a perspective of what’s valuable for a practitioner, but how do you, as an individual, find the key elements that are going to help you be successful in actually addressing and changing your health. We got into all sorts of elements of coaching — but most importantly, we got into how we leverage them to take your life forward.

This is a fascinating interview if you are looking to understand how to leverage your own business, how to leverage a coach in your own life and health journey, and the basics of how to move your life forward.

Key Takeaways:

[1:43] About my guest today, Dr. Sandra Scheinbaum.

[3:35] Welcoming Sandra to the podcast!

[3:43] Background on Sandra’s career and what brought her to the place she is now with founding her own business.

[7:24] What was the hardest part of launching the academy?

[8:50] Was the content creation (developing the curriculum) one of the harder parts of working on the academy program?

[11:37] What were some of the core areas that Sandra invested in during the early stages of founding her business?

[15:01] About Sandra’s discovery of functional medicine.

[20:18] All about Sandra’s coaching program!

[23:19] How knowing your purpose makes a successful coach.

[24:46] What does the journey look like for coaches going through Sandra’s program? What do they usually do after coming out of the program?

[26:41] In looking at the patients and clients her coaches are working with, what are some of the common elements that individuals are running up against when they’re trying to put these lifestyle changes into practice? What are some of the things that get in the way of people’s success?

[29:24] Sandra’s actionable tips to help you today to realign with your commitment to your health.

[31:33] Where has Sandra leveraged coaches in her own life?

[32:25] What does Sandra want her legacy to be?

[33:05] How does she define health?

[34:54] Sandra’s KPIs!

[37:40] Where to find more about what Sandra is up to online.

CALL TO ACTION

May 8, 2018

So I want you to picture this scenario: your marriage is falling apart, you are deeply conflicted about whether or not your career is in alignment with your goals, you’re on the opposite end of the country from your family and your core support systems, and the very first thought that comes to mind as all of these different things intersect and culminate is that “I need to float.”

This is the experience of Lindsay MacPhee. She is the founder of the Floatation Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We explore Lindsay’s journey from environmental engineer to entrepreneur. She is someone deeply committed to the mindfulness experience for those people in her community and those people around her.

We’re going to talk about floatation — and if you’ve never heard of it, you’ve got to stick around because it is an incredible hack to be able to access the brainwaves and mindset that some people who experience meditation for years and years work so hard to find.

From Lindsay’s journey to the experience of floating itself — I’m sure you’re going to resonate with this entire experience that we’re about to share, so stay tuned.

Key Takeaways:

[1:42] About my guest today, Lindsay MacPhee.

[3:00] Welcoming Lindsay to the podcast!

[3:33] Lindsay takes us through the journey of how she got to where she is right now.

[6:26] How Lindsay found the confidence to take action and not stand for her dissatisfaction with her lifestyle.

[8:16] Where did Lindsay originally learn about meditation?

[9:22] How did incorporating meditation into her daily practice change her lifestyle?

[11:25] Lindsay takes us through what floatation therapy is, the history behind it, and what you experience during it.

[13:50] How Floatation Center eases people’s fear of claustrophobia and feelings of nervousness with darkness.

[14:30] Are there any add-on elements or hacks to the floating?

[15:42] Does Lindsay and the Floatation Center team have any measurable outcomes that they look at that they’ve noticed with people who frequently engage with floating?

[17:32] How are people (that use her center regularly) leveraging it? What is the frequency of visits for the average visitor?

[18:39] Has Lindsay seen any shifts in people from an immune health perspective?

[19:39] How floatation therapy can be used to proactively benefit you.

[22:02] How else does Lindsay support her health outside of floating?

May 1, 2018

I had the real pleasure today of sitting down with a new health entrepreneur. Rachel Peterson has launched an online brand called Austin Paleo Grrl and has a new food product called We Bee Paleo — a paleo-friendly granola. And what is so cool about someone who has taken so many initiatives is that she’s really only been in the health world for the last two years.

This episode, Rachel shares with us a very personal journey that brought her to a place that forced her to make some very big and strategic decisions with her life. And what I find so inspiring about it is that she picked a journey that not only provided her with hope but is able to augment the health of other people along the way. Rachel is really honest about where she is at right now, the steps she is taking to be able to launch these new health initiatives, how she finds the balance between having a fulltime job while maintaining this other presence as her side hustle, and how she manages to maintain her own health throughout it all.

Rachel absolutely epitomizes the journey that we have all gone through as health entrepreneurs. This is a great interview for those who are looking to understand what it takes to move forward and all of the elements and all of the potential that is actually sitting in front of us.

Key Takeaways:

[12:50] Can someone be a vegan (or predominantly plant-based) and also be paleo?

[16:15] Has Rachel explored the ketogenic diet in her own health journey?

[18:03] Eat real food and listen to your body to figure out what works for you.

[19:07] More about Rachel’s entrepreneurial journey: What she’s currently working on right now and her plans for the future.

[21:11] The actual, actionable steps Rachel took with her business, We Bee Paleo, to move it forward.

[24:42] Did Rachel always know she was an entrepreneur?

[25:59] When does Rachel think she’ll know when she’s ready to leave her day job and take on her side hustle full-time?

[28:48] Does Rachel consider herself an extrovert?

[31:41] What is on Rachel’s health bucket list? What she is looking to explore health-wise in the future.

[33:15] If we were having this conversation again in three years, what would have to happen personally and professionally for you to feel proud and excited by your achievements?

[35:23] How Rachel defines health.

[36:41] Rachel’s key-performance indicators!

[43:38] Where to find out more about what Rachel is currently up to!
