On this episode of IMPACT, we had a conversation with the wonderful Dr. Aimie Apigian. Dr. Aimie is a Board Certified Preventative Medicine Physician with a Masters in Biochemistry and Public Health. She is also an author, speaker, and founder of Trauma Healing Accelerated, LLC. The topic of discussion for this week is understanding the complexity behind trauma and how to properly address it in order to heal from it.

There are many factors that play into trauma but many of us don’t know what those factors are, let alone what trauma actually is and how it deeply affects us. In this episode, Dr. Aimie dives deep into how she became involved with healing trauma through her own personal experiences and how she has harnessed the pain and turned it into an art and practice that helps many people in their healing journeys.

Of course, we discuss many topics in this episode, but the one statement that Dr. Aimie could not emphasize enough is “less talking, more doing”. Quite frequently, she notices that people tend to stay in the act of expressing their feelings about their trauma and not enough on taking action to diminish it. She asserts that everyone has trauma; everyone in this world is going to endure it at some point. In this episode, she recommends how one should approach their road to emotional wellness and stability. Make sure to have your notepad on hand when you tune in!

MEMORABLE QUOTES:

“Trauma is anything that, for any reason, at that time, overwhelmed your system. And that’s why it’s so individual. And that’s why it’s also very much related to what is the state of your nervous system.”

-Dr. Aimie Apigian

“We’ve lumped fight, flight, or freeze all in the same category, and that’s not true. Those are very different physiological states.”

-Dr. Aimie Apigian

“If we just take that moment to pause and sit, and let whatever comes up, come up, what we would find is that our body would start to shake and tremble because it’s releasing all this adrenaline.”

-Dr. Aimie Apigian

“Let’s not talk, let’s just do. Where many people get hurt in the process of their healing journey around trauma is talking about it.”

-Dr. Aimie Apigian

“When we experience trauma, those are very uncomfortable sensations that happen in the body. And so, our nervous system, unconsciously but intentionally, disconnects us from those uncomfortable sensations it sees as a threat to our survival.”

-Dr. Aimie Apigian
