My guest today, Lisa Goldberg, is a nutritionist with a specific expertise in understanding the mind-body connection to eating. As a weight loss coach, she speaks a lot about emotional eating in her practice. And today, we are really going to unpack the many different facets and features that we need to address if we’re going to start to break the cycle of emotional eating.
For people who have experienced diets on and off their entire lives, this interview is entirely for you. Not only do we talk about the mindset pieces that need to be in place to break the pattern of how we are eating and how we are engaging in our relationship with food, but we also start to break down some of the tactics, techniques, and conversation starters as we engage with our family of origin with respect to how we are eating and how we are choosing to honor ourselves going forward.
Lisa’s philosophy is really simple: it’s not about having a specific diet to lose weight; it’s about addressing your relationship with food. If this is something that you’ve always been curious about, I promise you will not be disappointed in today’s conversation!

As we head toward the end of 2020 and into 2021, we need to embrace a sense of courage as entrepreneurs. We need to lean into the fact that the world has changed, and that now — more than ever — give a platform and a voice to our ways of thinking, the gifts that we have, and the capacity for impact that sits inside of all of us. We need to share with individuals how we can help change their lives.
I truly feel that this is the time for entrepreneurs and that the single most differentiating factor for those who are going to make it through the next 24 months (vs. those who will not) is simply going to come down to whether or not you are willing to make courageous choices every single day.
We need to tap into this notion of courage that sits inside of all of us. What will you be doing to become a more courageous you? What is one step you will be taking to push yourself closer to making more courageous choices every single day? Join the conversation over on The Entrepology Collective and let us know!
In today’s episode, we’re going to be covering body, badass, and business all in one integrated topic. This is a topic that is critical to us as women and entrepreneurs who want to have an impact in this world — money. In particular, we are talking about our own personal management of money; how to start with that, how to lean into it, and why it’s one of the most critical things we will decide to take ownership of in our entire lives.
For far too long — despite us identifying as entrepreneurs and having our own businesses — far too many women are outsourcing the management of their finances to someone else in their family. So today, we’re talking about taking back and reclaiming that element of our wealth, our health, our business, and our personal empowerment.
Joining me in this conversation is my longtime friend, Jackie Porter. As a financial planner and a certified financial manager, she shares her important perspective as we delve into why managing money and leaning into the finances of our family is as much a feminist issue as it is about planning for our future; it’s a matter of self-worth and absolute importance.
Key Takeaways:
[1:01] About today’s episode.
[2:35] Welcoming Jackie Porter to the podcast!
[3:23] Jackie shares about who she is, what she does in the world, and why she is so incredibly passionate.
[8:18] How our parents program our money mindset and habits, and the importance of having these conversations around money literacy.
[10:53] Why we desperately need to be having more open conversations around our finances and educating around debt management, saving for retirement, cash flow management, credit, and overall financial management.
[12:25] Understanding OPM: how to leverage and invest other people’s money.
[13:39] The financial fundamentals that women need to know about.
[22:01] Understand how you can invest, not save, to multiply your wealth!
[24:00] Why you need to stop outsourcing your security.
[26:27] Addressing financial abuse and why outsourcing your security is a fundamental issue of women’s rights.
[28:39] Jackie’s key recommendations on where women can get started with developing their financial literacy.
[36:41] Sharing a story of the impact that taking responsibility for your finances as a woman can have.
[38:21] The importance of modeling financial literacy for your children.
[39:20] Jackie’s key performance indicators!
[44:30] Where to find more about what Jackie is up to!
[45:18] Thanking Jackie for joining the podcast!

We all have these certain ways of thinking that are entrenched and ingrained in who we are as an individual, as a family, and as a society. And today, we are breaking these down, we are calling them out, and we are holding ourselves accountable to reach our highest potential.
Having had some incredible conversations this year with some powerful female leaders (and, through doing my own soul-searching), I’ve really been able to get in touch with some of the key concepts that are holding us back. What I’ve come to discover — and what I’ve been able to pull together for all of you — is that there are five key limiting beliefs that I truly believe are pervasive within our ways of thinking that are holding us back from our potential for impact as entrepreneurs.
I really believe that 2020 can be a year that is a gift to all of us — but it requires that we lean into it. So I urge you to join me in this episode as I unpack the five limiting beliefs that you need to overcome in 2020!
Key Takeaways:
[:17] About today’s episode.
[1:01] The five limiting beliefs that we need to address in 2020 that are holding us back (and how we can address and conquer them).
[2:21] Limiting belief #1: Helping people means not earning what you are worth.
[5:48] Limiting belief #2: Confidence takes time.
[8:23] Limiting belief #3: Boundaries make you a b*tch.
[10:30] Limiting belief #4: Challenges and hard things mean that you are on the wrong path.
[13:19] Limiting belief #5: Investing in yourself costs too much.

Today’s topic is a little bit different from our usual — but I’d venture to say that it is one that actually impacts all of us. And now, since so many of us are now working entirely online from our homes, the effect is even greater.
My guest today, Risa Suzuki, is a Building Biologist and an expert in EMF — electromagnetic fields. She’s also the author of the What the EMF?: How to Protect Your Home from EMF Exposure, Improve Sleep, Reduce Anxiety, and Live a Happier, Healthier Life!
This topic of EMF has a peripheral penetration into all of our lives but it is not one that we love to look at. It is an inconvenient truth for many of us. There is no doubt that the electromagnetic frequencies that we are exposed to have an impact on our health and bodies.
What I loved about my interview with Risa today was the opportunity to start to break down what we need to know related to EMF and where we can take concerted action so that we can be informed citizens in a WiFi-connected world. When you know better, you can do better; and in this episode, Risa shares how we can begin to implement strategic changes, protect ourselves in compelling ways, and, overall, live a healthier and more energetic life.

Before there was functional medicine and before there was biohacking, there was a system of medicine that originated in Germany called biological medicine, now known as bioregulatory medicine. This is a system of medicine that goes even further upstream to truly understand the root cause of what’s going on in your system.
If the idea of optimizing your health is something you’re fascinated by, then my guest today is someone you’re going to want to listen to. Since graduating from Bastyr University as a Naturopathic Physician, Dr. Christine Schaffner has worked to create a new kind of health journey, co-creating the world-renowned Sophia Health Institute with her mentor, Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt. Dr. Christine has cultivated unique skills and very advanced knowledge of uncommon treatment protocols like frequency and energetic medicine. She has also worked with elite practitioners treating chronic disease and persistent Lyme. Dr. Christine strives to improve access, outcomes, and speed of recovery for patients wherever they may be on their health journey.
This was an incredibly fascinating conversation. I can promise you: this episode will change your life.

I used to ask everyone the same question at the end of every Entrepology Podcast, and that was: ‘What does your morning routine look like?’ But, for a while, I stopped asking it. And not because I wasn’t curious, but because I had this slight sense of shame around the fact that my morning routine had fallen apart.
Fast forward two years and a lot of stress later, I realized that my morning routine was not working because I was trying to copy the routines of other entrepreneurs with completely different lives than me! Now, I’ve finally found the perfect routine that works for me and optimizes both my workflow and my creativity — and I want to share it with all of you.
So, in today’s episode, I’m sharing how I crafted my morning routine, the small shifts that I made that got rid of my early morning distractions, and my step-by-step morning routine from the moment I first wake up!
Key Takeaways:

[2:44] One major component that helps lead to the steadiness of our day: routine.
[3:08] How not having a routine has shown me how quickly things can spin out of control!
[4:03] The first key learning point I’ve recently discovered about routines: alone time at the start and the end of the day.
[5:05] The second key learning point I’ve discovered about routines: planning reduces anxiety.
[6:10] The third thing I realized: exercise is the most important part of my creative process for my business.
[7:00] How I began crafting my morning routine.
[7:52] My intentions and goals for my morning routine and the distractions that were pulling me off track.
[8:49] A small shift that I made in my morning routine that eliminated the distractions I was experiencing in the morning.
[9:27] The way that I broke up my morning routine, based on my goals, intentions, and distractions.
[11:01] A key piece in my new morning routine: laying out my plan and getting organized the night before.
[13:11] Another key piece: waking up early by having effective sleep.
[15:06] What my morning ritual looks like right after I get up at 5 a.m.
[17:44] My morning routine from 5:30–6:00 a.m.
[18:55] What I do from 6:00–6:30 a.m.

My challenge to you this week is to not only plan out your morning routine... but to actually give it a go! Let me know what you’re building into your morning routine and how you’re making the commitment to see it through. Let’s continue the conversation over on The Entrepology Collective!
If there’s one good thing that has come out of this pandemic, it’s that we’re seeing with more clarity than ever, the parts of our society that are broken. No longer can we sweep things under the rug, because the rug has been pulled out from under us.
Notwithstanding all of the conversations we’re currently having within our society, there is one area — especially as a parent with children heading back to school — that requires a new lens. And that is our education system. The days of kids going to school from 9–3 dates way back to the industrial revolution; a time where one parent was definitely staying at home to care for those kids. It is obvious that this is a system ripe for disruption and one that requires a new lens.
My guest today, Heidi DeCoux, is focusing on exactly this. She is not an educator by background, but, in fact, an entrepreneur. She has an incredible vision for changing this world through education by looking at the outcome that we all wish we could have started our entrepreneurial journey from.
As we are all looking to a new school year, think of this as a tremendous opportunity to try something new on for size. Heidi is going to rock your world and disrupt your vision for what education can be!
Key Takeaways:

[6:20] Who Heidi is, what she is up to, and why she is the perfect person to talk about this topic today!
[9:33] How Heidi and I first had this conversation about reinventing the education system.
[10:40] What happens when an entrepreneur builds a school? Heidi shares her education model for Illuminated Life School.
[17:30] How do we take Heidi’s education model and integrate it into the requirements that individuals need to have as they step into the world?
[22:15] Sharing a personal story that underscores the importance of all that Heidi is doing.
[24:08] Heidi shares why and how they’re teaching deep financial intelligence.
[27:01] How are families who don’t have the financial means able to access the school?
[28:32] Heidi explains what their curriculum and method of teaching looks like as compared to the Montessori curriculum.
[32:24] Does Heidi have any online resources currently available to help students and their parents during this pandemic?
[33:30] Heidi shares the vision for what both the physical and virtual schools will look like worldwide when they open them in 2022.
[35:20] The main tenets and core pillars of the Illuminated Life School.
[40:14] Heidi shares what she is bringing to the table as an entrepreneur by background.

[43:15] Food for thought: what motivated your own dietary choices? Was it the science, was it how it felt, was it a prescription from somebody else, was it the government food guide or was it your mom’s way of cooking? And is there an opportunity now to elevate the type of food you’re taking into your system; moving it off of autopilot and into a state of conscious eating? And for those who have been eating a certain way for a long time, would you be willing to challenge your own eating dogma if it meant you would actually feel better? Are you interested in breaking the rules of the diet you are on, in a quest for even better health? Since April 2020, the employment of women in Canada has dropped by 7%. Over that same period, the employment of men has dropped by 3%. In fact, as we sit here in July of 2020 we are seeing the lowest level of employment of women in over three decades in Canada.
As you know, this is a podcast about innovation, badassery, health, and entrepreneurship — and I would be remiss if we did not talk about this situation going on in the world right now as it pertains to elevating the voices of women as entrepreneurs and leaders.
So, on today’s podcast, I am going solo to explore the opportunity we have to create a new future. Let’s start this conversation and be the catalyst for change as we begin to move into a post-pandemic world.
Key Takeaways:

[11:21] The two primary sources of stress I see in adults that I work with, in a clinical context.
[12:30] My proposition regarding the school system/society issue and how we can provide a better future for our children.
[15:27] What I’m aspiring for my life and my children’s lives to be like on the other side of COVID-19.
[16:37] My intention behind this conversation.
[17:28] What I would love from all of you: let’s carry this conversation forward. This is the future I see for us as female entrepreneurs, innovators, and leaders.

Let’s carry this conversation forward over on The Entrepology Collective and elevate the voices of female entrepreneurs, innovators, and leaders.
Let’s get super honest. Addressing your business, your body, your balance, your inner-badass — none of these things are possible if you are in a state of chronic pain. When that headache, back pain — or whatever pain you are experiencing — emerges, everything else is moved to the side.

In this episode, she breaks down this notion of prevention and addressing chronic pain in a really comprehensive and amazing manner.
With all of us sitting around more than ever due to the current global pandemic, it’s especially important that we know about these key pieces of chronic pain prevention. Tune in with Dr. Patel and me to learn more about how to holistically approach the management and prevention of chronic pain, how your psychological state can manifest physical pain in the body, and the pieces you can begin to put into place immediately to perfect your posture, prevent pain, and optimize your performance!

My guest today, Mary Hyatt, is a life and business coach. She helps her clients become awake to their feelings; aware of their thoughts, patterns, and habits; anchored in feeling confident in who they are; and aligned with identifying their voice and desires.
What I loved most about the conversation Mary and I had today were her teachings and insights around how we, as women, can harness the power of our emotions in the work that we do as parents, entrepreneurs, and go-getters in this world. Mary shows through the work that she does that we do not need to numb out, suppress, or deny our emotions in order to work harder, better, or more efficiently. The real power comes from harnessing our emotions and leveraging them in what we do.
In this episode, Mary shares her personal journey with understanding her emotions and the beautiful transformation she experienced once she understood and acknowledged her emotions and how they showed up in her body. She shares how we can tap into our emotional body, how we can understand and recognize the warning signs before getting to a place of burnout, how we can begin to cultivate self-awareness around checking in with ourselves and our emotions, and how we can learn how to become truly present and true to ourselves.
Mary’s words are profound and her insight is incredible. It is truly my pleasure to introduce you all to Mary Hyatt!
Key Takeaways:

[1:54] Welcoming Mary Hyatt to the podcast!

[16:30] The profound shift you can experience both physically, emotionally, mentally, and beyond, when you gain control of managing your mindset and state of emotion. Mary also speaks about science and history behind our emotions being connected to the body.
[19:47] Mary shares why she thinks some people are afraid of experiencing the full spectrum of emotions that we all experience as humans. She also shares how we can begin to expand our emotional vocabulary and become more in tune with it.
[25:02] Mary speaks about how giving people back control and vocabulary over their emotions is a significant part of her work as a life and business coach. She also shares about the direct correlation between burnout and disconnection from emotions that she often sees amongst the female entrepreneurs that she works with.
[27:10] What Mary teaches her clients to help them become more present with themselves, their emotions, and what they need.

Experiencing the full spectrum of emotions is part of the human experience. We are more empowered when we can accept and understand our emotions rather than deny them or numb ourselves out. A key tool in taking the first steps to better understanding our emotions is to expand our emotional vocabulary. We are more than just ‘sad,’ ‘happy,’ or ‘mad.’ Mary and I would love for all of you to try and expand your emotional vocabulary by spending time reflecting on the nuances of the emotions you feel throughout your day and journaling them down. Take the time to identify their complexities and acknowledge their existence.
